In Asheron's Call 2, as in many other Massively Multiplayer Online Role-Playing Games (MMORPG's), experience is the measure of a player character's development. The amount of experience a player has earned is then reflected via their character level.

When starting out, a level 1 player has 0 experience points. Through the killing of non-player enemies and the completion of quests, experience points are earned and the player's level increases as a result. This opens up possibilities for character strengthening and customization.

With each level, the amount of experience needed to reach the next level increases exponentially - experience rewards from questing and hunting increase also, but to a lesser extent, meaning that leveling takes progressively longer at higher levels. There is no way to decrease in level or lose experience; it is strictly an ascendant progression.

The maximum possible level is 150, however there is insufficient content to reach this level. The 'soft cap' is approximately level 100. The highest quest XP is as a percentage of the total needed to reach level 86, whilst the highest regular creature is level 95.

Contents

Character Development

Health and Vigor

Each 'level up' automatically increases the player's maximum health and maximum vigor. The amount varies depending on the player's level.

Level 1-10 10-20 20-25 25-36 36-45 45-49 49-50 50+
Max Health +30 +25 +20 +15 +10 +5 +5 +30
Max Vigor +30 +30 +30 +30 +30 +30 +60 +10

Accuracy and Evasion

Accuracy and evasion values begin at 8 for a level 1 player and are increased by 8 for each level up until level 50.

Skill Credits

Each level up from 1-50 earns you 1 'skill credit' (totaling 49), which you may use to train skills with and specialize your character - a skill can cost between 1 and 5 credits to train. From level 45, and after becoming a Hero of Dereth, each level up earns you 100 'hero credits', which you may use to train hero skills and perks.

Improving Skills

A skill begins at level 1 after first being trained. In order to increase its strength you must increase its level by allocating experience points to it. How much experience you have to spend on skills depends on the total experience you have earned thus far, as well as how much you have already spent. Each level up of a skill has a specific experience cost and you must have the entirety of this amount available in order to raise the skill's level.

Untraining Skills

Allocating skill credits and experience is not a permanent decision: it is possible to untrain all skills in order to recover and redistribute skill credits and experience points. To untrain a skill there must first be no skill trained above it, no other skill currently being untrained and the skill itself not on a reset timer. With this being the case, select the skill and click the downward-pointing green arrow. This will begin the process of untraining. To complete the process you must earn the same amount of experience points as you have invested into the skill. A skill with 10,000 experience allocated to it would require you to earn 10,000 experience to untrain it. At the end of the process you would then have 20,000 available experience points and any associated hero credits.

Another way to untrain is with the Soul Eater quest and looted Eater of Souls Tokens.

It should be noted that hero perks are limited to one perk being untrained per week. They have no experience to recover, however.

Equipment Requirements

Weapons and armor have a usage minimum requirement in terms of player level from 1-50 and then in terms of Arcane Lore to dilineate items beyond level 50. Arcane Lore is a hero skill that requires experience to level up.

Additionally, each level up increases the user's maximum capacity in Armor Value and Shield Value.

Enhancing XP Gained

Percentage Rewards

Quests may give a fixed XP reward or a percentage XP reward. Those that give a percentage XP reward do so as a percentage of the total XP needed to level for your level - the XP needed to level value is taken from the beginning of the level and does not change as this value decreases with the player getting closer to leveling up. This means that XP rewards for quests can increase as your level increases. All percentage rewards are however capped at a certain level. For example, SHRETH Base Ultra is a level 46+ Hero status quest that gives a 4% reward, capping at level 85. This means that a level 46 will earn a 3,359,921 XP reward while a level 85 will earn 3,296,185,479.

Fellowships

Experience earned while hunting is subject to two forms of enhancement.

The first is due to XP sharing ratios, as seen via the fellowship panel. A solo player will earn 100% of the XP reward for killing a creature. Should they join up with others, however, the total reward surpasses 100%. A two-person fellow will each earn 60% from a kill, totalling 120%; a three-person fellow will each earn 45% from a kill, totalling 135%; a four-person fellow will each earn 35% from a kill, totalling 140%; and a five-person fellow will each earn 30% from a kill, totalling 150%. This is the limit of XP enhancement from XP sharing. No advantage exists beyond five member fellows, with six, seven, eight, and nine-fellow groups sharing 150% between them.

Similarly, a hidden bonus exists for killing group type creatures [1]. The kill will instead be worth 150%, 180%, 220% and 250% for a two, three, four and five-person fellow respectively. This bonus does not require XP sharing but it does require that the fellow member either be within the detection radius of the enemy or that they otherwise engage in combat.

Quest rewards are not affected by fellowship bonuses. Also note that XP sharing requires a player to be within 5 levels, higher or lower, of the fellow leader.

Update: Testing indicates a bonus of 270% and 280% for six and seven-person fellows when killing group monsters. There is no bonus further to this.

Mana

When achieving Hero status you will gain access to three craft recipes under 'Quest Recipes' and 'Mana Charges'. These are to create Pure Mana, White Mana and Ebon Mana items, which are consumables that increase your experience while hunting by 25%, 50% and 100% respectively for one hour after used. Quest rewards are not increased by mana usage.

A player may craft up to 7 Pure Manas, 4 White Manas and 2 Ebon Manas in a week before needing to return to the Hero Shrine to renew their charges. Only one mana item may be consumed every 22 hours. Mana charges are tradeable, so a player may use 7 Ebon Manas in a week if they have access to them.

Note that mana items will vanish after approximately 15 minutes of being created and not used.

Weapon Enchantments

Uncommon weapon enchantments include 'Inflate' and 'Lasting Inflate', which act as a debuff against the target monster, increasing the experience reward for killing it by 3% for 15 and 30 seconds respectively.

Hero Perks

Hero Perks are passive skills which can be trained in order to improve a players character. Under 'Miscellaneous', there are 'Fast Learner' perks that, when trained, slightly increases the experience earned from killing monsters. There are 6 in total, with each costing 350 hero credits to learn and increasing XP by 1%, up to a maximum of 6%.

Chain Combos

Chain combos involve three different players in a fellow using a skill each, in the right sequence and with perfect timing so as to produce a special effect. Part of this effect involves the enemy being stunned for about 2 seconds. If killed while stunned due to this effect then it will be worth 25% more XP than normal. The sequences are largely unknown.

Nerfing XP Gained

Hunting

When a player is too high or low of level in relation to a creature's level, experience earned for killing it will be reduced or 'nerfed'. This reduction is incremental, with each additional level outside of the 100% experience range leading to a more severe penalty. The range of levels for which you can gain 100% experience and the extent of the reduction outside of this range varies slightly for pre-Hero and post-Hero content.

The below table outlines what XP a creature will be worth when killed by a player of a certain level, with the top half being for non-Heroes and the bottom half for Heroes. For example, a level 33 player killing a level 20 creature would earn 55% of its normal experience.

In a fellow, experience nerfing is shared across all members and is determined as a proportion of each members damage contribution. If one person does 40% of the damage in a kill and is of a level that nerfs the XP to 80%, then 40% of the creatures experience will be reduced by 20%; such that, assuming the other members are within the 100% range, the total worth of the kill would be 92% of its normal amount. All nerfing is factored into a creatures experience worth before being shared equally among fellows, resulting in all members receiving the same XP regardless of their contribution to nerfing.

Due to the severity of nerfing being damage-dependent, characters which deal less or no damage, such as debuffers and healers, will be of much less concern when outside the 100% range.

In the case of damage dealt by player-owned pets, the level of the player is what counts and not the level of the pet.

Quests

Certain quests and vaults are nerfed in experience when a player reaches a significantly high enough level - for example, a level 60 doing a level 20 quest may get 1% of the XP reward. However many other quests are not - specifically, hero quest content is rarely nerfed.

Pass Up XP

Pass up XP, seen via the Allegiance tab of the Social panel

The allegiance system is based on a patron-vassal schema that is created when a character swears allegiance to another character. This creates a pyramid-like guild system, with each character having up to 12 vassals underneath them.

Within this system is the feature of experience being passed up from vassal to patron. Whenever a vassal earns experience from killing a monster, their patron will receive 25% of this experience as a bonus known as 'pass up'. This does not subtract from the experience earned by the vassal and experience earned from quests do not contribute to pass up, nor does experience earned as a result of a mana bonus. The maximum amount a player can gain in experience from their vassals is 35% of the total amount needed to reach their next level. If a player reaches this limit, they will receive no more pass up experience until they level up.

It is also possible to gain experience from those characters sworn under your vassals. The experience gained from a grandvassal is 2.5%.
