Description and Lore

The Moarsmen are one of the few races native to Dereth. Tales are told that they were once servants of an ancient tribe of Empyrean, and that during the time of the Yalaini Empire, the priestesses of Ithaenc Cathedral trained and cared for the Moarsmen.

Moarsmen are herbivores, receiving most of their nutrition from local water plants (lily pad flowers being a particular favorite). Their habitat mainly encompasses the swamps of Omishan. They are particularly common around the Vesayen Isles, where they maintain ancient protection of the Ithaenc Cathedral. Although legends say they were the gentlest of creatures when under the guiding hand of their priestesses, these legends also say the Moarsmen defend the Cathedral and its grounds with an unmatched ferocity. Those who trespass on the ruins of Ithaenc had best beware.

The Moarsmen remain bitter enemies of the Burun Nemesis, with the Burun constantly trying to overrun the ruins of Ithaenc Cathedral. In fact, it is only the stalwart resistance of the Moarsmen that has kept the whole of the Vesayen Isles out of Burun hands.
