At item levels 1-50, crafted armor and weapons have a corresponding minimum character level requirement in order to be equipped. Beyond level 50, the minimum requirement is measured in the user's Arcane Lore, a Hero skill which requires experience points to increase. The following table outlines the item level (IL) of the craft, the Arcane Lore (AL) of the resulting item and the total experience points (XP) needed to raise the Arcane Lore skill to the appropriate level.

It is possible to reduce an item's Arcane Lore requirement by 5 with the use of an Ort of Mystique, a rare loot item, and thereby save XP. This is most commonly seen with item level 100 equipment.
